The Following is a listing of our current curriculum.  The material is arranged to be age appropriate.

 

Kindergarten

Thirty Minute Program: An eight minute cartoon DVD is shown called "The Misadventures of Wags and Freckles, A Lesson in the Danger of Alcohol." The students are then given a coloring and activity storybook and the message of the DVD is reinforced by games and activities.

 

First Grade

Three Thirty Minute Sessions: A ten minute segment of a DVD is shown in each session using The Wise Owl's Drug Safety Kit The students are then given worksheet activities that reinforce the message of the DVD. Session one discusses making healthy choices. Session two discusses the harmful effects of alcohol and tobacco. And session three discusses the proper use of medicine and vitamins.

 

Second Grade

Thirty to Forty Five Minute program: A DVD is shown called The Case of Cool Owl It is an animated video of a child detective that investigates "Cool Al" who represents alcohol The DVD describes what alcohol can do to kids and how they should ban together to say. "No to alcohol." The students are then given worksheet activities and puzzles that reinforce the message of the DVD.

Forty Five Minute Program: A DVD is shown called This Is Your Brain On Alcohol. It is a fast paced presentation by kids on how alcohol affects a developing brain. It includes humor and good visualizations. The Students are then given worksheets and puzzles and reinforce the message of the DVD.

 

Fifth Grade

Forty Five Minute Program: A VHS Video is shown called The Glug. It is a drama about Tony and his friends drinking and the problems they face as a result. The program also shows the plus and minuses of peer pressure. The video presentation is reinforced with a time of discussion.

Forty Five Minute Program:  A DVD is shown called Everything You Need to Know About Alcohol in 22 Minutes.  It plays on the format of the TV show “24” and gives a complete run down on all aspects of alcohol use.  This is then followed up with a power point presentation of how alcohol adversely affects different organs of the body.

 

High School

Forty Five Minute Program: A DVD is shown called Bombed. It is a drama and testimony of real life examples of the "dark side" of drinking. The students are then engaged in discussions and role playing.

Forty Five Minute Program: A DVD is shown called Underaged  Drinking. It emphasizes the facts and the risks of underage drinking. It covers the following: degrees of intoxication, laws, liability, binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, acquaintance rape and pregnancy. The students are then engaged in discussions and role playing.

Forty Five Minute Program: A DVD is shown called Straight Talk The Truth About Alcohol And Sex. This DVD emphasizes the dangers of alcohol and dating through drama and flashback testimonials. It includes the subject of sexting. The students are then engaged in discussion and debate over alcohol related issues.
